New Single?

New Adam Single!

That’s right, a new Adam single will be out VERY soon! Can you guess which song from the album it will be? Leave a comment with your guess! ALSO, head over to our Twitter and Facebook pages and tell us your favourite Adam song there – you could find yourself winning a little something!

*JTF here…the links in that blurb point to NZ twitter and Facebook accounts, so I’m wondering if this is still a NZ thing, rather than a U.S. thing

ETA: *Fuzzy here…. JTF, looks like your hunch was right about the announcement referring only to NZ. The RCA Mod revised his post above over at AO.com to this:

This is like one of those evening newspaper headlines; attracts attention but it is really only a bubble of air.

    Hi everyone! πŸ™‚

Cool new blog! I’m glad to see so many familiar names. It’s a little cryptic how the AO.com announcement links to those NZ sites. I’m hoping that “new single” announcement means N. America, and not just NZ.

FUZZY!!! I’m glad you’re here! PF went down when I was in the middle of writing you a PM, lol. I was sad because I didn’t know where else to contact you. Great to see that you’ve found the blog.

Hi Fuzzy! Shouldn’t AO be on top of these kinds of things? They would have to know that meant NZ if that were the case, right?

Anyway by the looks of the comments- Fever and Sleepwalker are winning by a mile!

You know. Fever IS a risk- but it could also be the gamechanger Adam needs. If I were his management,, and I sometimes think I am ( lol) I would tell him to go for it and DARE radio publicly to play it. I mean really go on a media blitz about it.

Hi planetangst! (LOVE that name! πŸ˜‰ )

Yeah, I agree that AO.com should be on top of this kind of thing, but I haven’t been impressed by their lack of accuracy and clarity in previous posts. I’m hoping that this announcement means that there will be another single in N.A., and I too hope that it’s “Fever”. I’m pretty “out of it” when it comes to anything radio, but would a pronoun issue like this really be such a big deal? At least a big enough deal to discourage release of this song as a single? Personally, I would hope not, but then again, I’m pretty ignorant about the whole area of radioplay.

And, yeah, saga, count me in as “practical” too when it comes to a radio-edit of that song. πŸ˜‰

Regardless, I like “Sleepwalker” enough to be fine with that as the next single, but from what I’ve learned from you radio-mavens here, the problem with SW is that it’s much more of an HAC song, whereas “Fever” is more of a Top 40 song. But, didn’t they think that way about IIHY too?

  5. saga says:

I am such a krass practical, results-oriented person but I would release a radio edit of fever.

    • samantha says:

      Fixed your post for you.

And I would go for the edit, too. In fact, since the rest of the song is directed at “you,” it would be more consistent to change the “he” to “you.”

I think that Gaga insisted on the “he” as part of her own agenda (which is not to say that her agenda is not a good one, in regard to this). It’s just not a decision that seems prudent for a new artist who wants to get airplay.

  6. saga says:

Ok now… who is editing my comments? πŸ˜›

  7. fuzzywuzzy1 says:

saga, I can see your “Master of Angst” avatar and my penguin avatar on my dashboard, but how come they aren’t showing up on the blog comments here?

  8. jtfacts says:

Hey fuzzy! Glad to see you found us refugees!

As far as Fever or any single for that matter, I think that’s a label decision not an Adam decision. So I don’t think it’s really Adam who is unwilling to take the risk on Fever. But like the label, he might not be crazy about the risk at this point. Assuming the media was ready to raise a ruckus at the lack of radioplay or any radio edits, it just kinda makes it all about Adam’s sexuality again. I don’t get the impression that Adam or the label want to go there.

Interesting theory samantha about Gaga and the pronoun, but I really think that was an Adam call, not a Gaga call. That recording session was pre-AMAs and I think Adam might have been a little…hmmm…what’s the right word. Mistaken about where this country is as far as gay rights? Or where radio PDs think the country is? He has spent his adult life in a fairly liberal city and did very well on a show viewed as quite Middle America. He might have thought his sexuality really didn’t pose much of an issue, at least until the AMAs came along and it was clear that this country still has a ways to go.

    • samantha says:

I think you’re right that it was Adam’s call (and also right about the reasons behind it).

BUT — Adam did say that it was originally Gaga’s idea, and he hero-worships her. So I think that played a big part.

Basically, though, it’s that third-person deviation from the rest of the song that just bugs me. Putting radio play aside, it just doesn’t belong there. IMO YMMV IIHY WWFM MHALL LMAO

      • jtfacts says:

I haven’t kept up with all the interviews, but in the one saw (one of the earlier ones), my impression was that Gaga said something like hey, this could be an issue, Adam said he didn’t want to change it and that was that. Or she pointed out the issue and they agreed it shouldn’t change. I never got the impression that it was her idea not to change it and Adam went along with it, but as I said, I haven’t kept up with all the interviews. And I could be mis-remembering!

        MHALL?

  9. zizou says:

Hmm just my personal opinion….and I’ve said it before, I say no to a radio edit for Fever. Look, I don’t think that Fever will be released as a single in the US one way or another, but if you think about it there is no reason for edit. There is nothing insulting in the song, Adam is not cursing or talking about d*cks. It’s a bloody pronoun. And I guess everybody knows by now that Adam is gay….so what’s the reason for editing the song? To fit radio? Well radio can decide by itself…I’m a practical person too but I guess this is sth that doesn’t feel right for me. Not that it would have changed my opinion of Adam or anything cause I know the radio game but again I find it odd,…IMO.

    • samantha says:

Hi, zizou (I really liked zicobunny) —

I was typing my comment while you entered yours.

Everything you say makes sense, but I still think it just doesn’t fit. And I’ll go a little further (at great risk — LOL) and say that it almost seems gratuitous.

      • zizou says:

zicobunny sounds to me like a bunny-serial killer…I dunno why. yeah I get what you’re saying…it’s like keeping the pronoun on purpose. I don’t remember Gaga’s demo tho. Does she sings it the same way?

  10. jtfacts says:

You know what I dislike even more than the radio edit idea–the song becoming a duet with a Gaga. I just hate hate hate the idea that adding Gaga would somehow make the song less “gay” and more tolerable to the public. I get why that might be the case, but it just makes me gag.

    • samantha says:

When I first heard the idea, I liked it. That was before Gaga started to get on people’s nerves (or so I’m seeing written more and more frequently). I thought it would be a good way to bring in some Gaga fans.

Now — not in favor of the idea — don’t think it has an upside.

    • fuzzywuzzy1 says:

I agree. I don’t like the idea of Gaga’s participation in this song making it more “acceptable”.

  11. jchang365 says:

I don’t like the idea of a Gaga duet either. I just don’t think their voices go very well together, and even though they have similar theatrical and glam styles, Adam is way more tongue-in-cheek while Gaga is WAY serious about everything. I think their attitudes would actually clash.

  12. mariettejb says:

I don’t think Adam can get away with changing the “he” to a “you” or “we” or something. There would be press about how he would sell himself out to homophobes. The song is out there. People know what the original lyrics are. It will be OUT magazine all over again.

So basicly changing the “he” would result in a backlash from the gay community. Not changing it would limit the radio play it would recieve. The public is Gaga’ed out so adding her won’t help.

In short: this song is fucked (in the US)

    Bring on Sleepwalker!

  13. saga says:

    Nice summary mar!

  14. lindag23 says:

I agree with all re no duet with Gaga and I think Adam has pretty much indicated that he does not want that. He has stated that although we was flattered by the Lord Gaga suggestion, he felt that their styles were very different. He has said how impressed he is with her artistry but claims only an acquaintance based on the mutual song. I noticed that in his Vevo playlist, that there was not one Gaga song. So I doubt a duet is in the offing.
